Sanctimonious crap reaches yet greater heights as Newsweek caves

I like this one the best:

State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said U.S. diplomats worldwide were attempting to counter the effect of the Newsweek story by giving interviews to Arab and South Asian media. ``We have made clear, I think, that there is the utmost respect for religion of the prisoners,'' Boucher said.

More lies. Let's set the Corrente Wayback Machine to 01-27-2005:

Female interrogators tried to break Muslim detainees at the U.S. prison camp in Guantanamo Bay by sexual touching, wearing a miniskirt and thong underwear and in one case smearing a Saudi man's face with fake menstrual blood, according to an insider's [Sarr's] written account.

The female interrogator wanted to "break him," Saar adds, describing how she removed her uniform top to expose a tight-fitting T-shirt and began taunting the detainee, touching her breasts, rubbing them against the prisoner's back and commenting on his apparent erection.

The detainee looked up and spat in her face, the manuscript recounts.

The interrogator left the room to ask a Muslim linguist how she could break the prisoner's reliance on God.

"Utmost respect for the religion of the prisoners."

[Oh, man. My B.S.S. is acting up again. Where's that damn bucket? Give me a minute, OK?]

Meanwhile, Raw Story cites many other examples of desecration of the Koran.

Of course, just as when CBS butchered one the Bush AWOL story, the Republican Noise Machine and its media whores used that to discredit all Bush AWOL stories. Gee, it almost seems like the same thing's going on here, doesn't it?

NOTE Of course, it is a delicious irony that Michael "Spiky" Isikoff—who did such great work with Jonah "White Feather" Goldberg's Mom during the VRWC's attempted overthrow of Clinton—is the one "stung" by a Rovian disinformation ploy. It couldn't have happened to a nicer whore.

Still, memo to media whores everywhere: The wingers really do eat their own. If it can happen to Spiky, it can happen to you. And if you don't rely on anonymous sources quite so much, and get out from behind your desks, you might not get stung, and you might remember how much fun real reporting used to be.
